Monroe County Animal League

The all-volunteer Monroe County Animal League was formed to attempt to deal with our county's pet overpopulation problem through spay/neuter and adoption programs, and through educational programs to help local residents become more responsible in caring for their pets  Assistance is needed in the follwing areas:

  • Foster Parent

  • Driver for Puppies Across America trips to Massachusetts

  • Van pick up & preparation for trip / van clean up & return after trip

  • Telephone "Hotline" host

  • Newsletter editor (biannual)

  • Special event coordinator and/or worker

  • Animal transporter to a foster care location

  • Website creator and/or monitor

  • General office worker (facilitate mailings, etc.)

  • Fund raiser and sponsorship seeker

Arts and Culture

Monroe Arts Alliance is a non-profit membership supported organization committed to community service through promortion of the arts in Monroe County and the surrounding areas.  Its purpose is for enrichment of the general public.  We'd love YOU to join our team and help the arts grow in Monroe County! You'd have opportunities to:

  • Help with publicity

  • Assist with children's activities

  • Work as events greeter

  • Write for grants

  • Serve on a committee

  • Help with mailings & MORE!

The Monroe County Historical Society is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to discovering, preserving, and sharing the history and heritage of Monroe County.

We meet quarterly at 2:00pm on the second Sunday of March, June, September, and December. The location is usually the Monroe County Public Library in Union, but it sometimes varies when we visit places of exceptional interest. Changes in meeting place are announced in the newsletter, in the Monroe Watchman, and on this website.

Monroe Tourism Office is a part of the WVU Extension Service, Monroe County office.  The office is located on Health Center Drive between Dr. Kilcollins Dental office and the Monroe Health Center.  Volunteer opportunities exist in the office to help with ongoing projects.
