TGGVCF Scholarship Funds
The following scholarships funds are administered by the Greater Greenbrier Valley Community Foundation. Application packets are provided to counselors at the appropriate high schools, or students can also apply directly to the Foundation by downloading the application packet from the link at the bottom of this page. 
 

The A.A. McLaughlin Memorial Scholarship

Friends and family of the late Coach A.A. McLaughlin established this scholarship to honor his memory.   It is awarded to a student living in the area served by the old Alderson High School. This is a one-time award of $500. Students at Greenbrier East High school can obtain applications through the Guidance Department or on edline.
 

The Janice Walker Pogue Scholarship

Mrs. Pogue established the renewable scholarship to aid a student from White Sulphur Springs. The scholarship is a $500 reward, renewable for four years contingent on satisfactory academic performance in college course. Students at Greenbrier East High School can obtain applications through the Guidance Department or on edline.
 

The Gay and Becky Shinaberry Scholarship

Gay Shinaberry, a Pocahontas County native, established this scholarship to support a female graduate of Pocahontas County High School who is the first in her family to attend college. The recipient receives $5,000, which is renewable for four years contingent on satisfactory academic performance in college courses.   The selection process is supervised by the Honors Society at Pocahontas County High School.

 

The Roland P. Sharp Family Memorial Scholarship

Dr. Roland P. Sharp established this scholarship to assist one or more seniors at Pocahontas County High School who plans to pursue a career in dentistry, teaching or agriculture and who demonstrates financial need. The first Sharp scholarship will be awarded in 2012.  Information will be available from the Guidance Office at Pocahontas County High School. The amount of the scholarship has yet to be determined, but it will not exceed $1,000.

 

Virgil W. Hanshaw Orphan’s Scholarship

May be awarded to a student who has lost both parents to death, or is a student of a single-parent household, or is a student exiting the foster care system.  The student must be a native of (born in) West Virginia and attend a West Virginia public school.  The student must demonstrate financial hardship.  The student must major in the field of business with students entering the field of insurance receiving first preference.  The student must earn a portion of their tuition, room and board and fees by working at least part-time in the public or private sector including work study programs and internships while attending college.  The student may substitute volunteer community service work for this scholarship requirement.  This award is potentially renewable.
